By Adam Hogg

Cyclonus and Scourge prepare to take-on Galvatron and wrestle the timejump trigger from him!

High above the cascades range in Northern Oregon, four F14 Tomcats scramble towards two unidentified aircraft. The men flying these planes justifiably believe they are piloting the deadliest super fighters in the air today. Fast, manoeuverable, equipped with state-of-the-art deffensive and weapons systems, the F14 is a match for any plane on Earth. Sadly, the adversaries these pilots face today are not of this world. They are Cyclonus and Scourge, Transformers from the future, and they are in need of target practice!

One of the F14s explodes spectacularly just after the pilot ejects, with Cyclonus responsible for its destruction. The other pilots try to remain calm as they report the loss, and with slight over confidence one finds Scourge in his sights. The locked-on rocket is expertly avoided and Scourge doubles back. This time the pilot has no time to eject as the jet is disintigrated by a laser blast. The two remaining fighters realise they are out of their depth and dive away into the cloud cover with Cyclonus in pursuit. The Decepticon gains rapidly on his quarry but at the last second the fighters bank as a tall peak comes out of nowhere! Cyclonus sees it to late and collides with the rock, bounces off and into a downward spiral. One of the jets seizes the opportunity to release a sidewinder at the stricken Decepticon.

Scourge can't watch his partner's stupidity any longer, and while casually destroying one of the last jets, he asks his Nebulan companion Fracas to have Nightstick take control from Cyclonus' cockpit. As they fly off semi-victorious, Cyclonus can do nothing to hide his shame at being bettered by a human jet. Scourge thinks it's a bad omen for the impending meeting with their old boss Galvatron!

On the distant planet of Cybertron, the Autobots' elite commando unit the Wreckers are preparing for war! Twin Twist rallies the troops, going over the mission objectives while Springer and Emirate Xaaron look on. Xaaron has the same bad feeling as Springer, but its not the troops - he could not ask for a more powerful, skilled,or loyal group. It is the entire trip to Earth; a combat drop through an unstable dimensional portal onto an alien world, in order to battle possibly the most powerful Decepticon in all creation, and without Ultra Magnus! It is cause for concern, but Springer agrees there is no way back now.

Back on Earth, and within the Decepticons original fortress base, Shockwave reflects on his good fortune. Truly Cyclonus and Scourge are gifts from the gods. He could hardly believe his audio receptors when they came to him offering to take on Galvatron. It seems that they too are from the future, and wish to obtain Galvatron's time jump trigger in order to return there. They are confident of sucess but sought a place to flee in case they failed. Shockwave agreed to the offer because he too would like to see the back of Galvatron, either way he wins.

Elsewhere, Cyclonus and Scourge land in the middle of a human settlement exactly where Galvatron has agreed to meet them. As humans flee is terror, the two Decpticons try to guess why their old commander chose this place. Nearby a human who cannot flee holds a particularly sinister looking gun. Tired of listening to the human's whining, Galvatron lets the him leave as he transforms an grows, he has business to discuss. Scourge and Cyclonus reel as the mighty Galvatron appears before them.

Galvatron stares at the strange humans standing beside his two former lieutenants, a lot has happened since they last met, but he is willing to accept them back if they learn to follow his orders to the letter. Cyclonus reveals that they have no intention of serving him and they have lured him here to steal his time jump device. Galvatron laughs after noticing they are unarmed, surely they don't expect to best him with their bare hands? Suddenly, the two nebulans transform into Cyclonus and Scourge's weapons, they are Target Masters now, and they want that device! Galvatron hesitates, he no longer has the device, but even if he did he would not hand it over. While the air begins to crackle from an unknown energy, Galvatron welcomes the challenge, and invites Cyclonus and Scourge to fight him if they dare. Suddenly, the sky rips open as the Wreckers descend from the interdimensional portal. Realising they are among humans, Springer knows and the mission is doomed, and possibly them too!

Comments:

Top quality artwork from the rarely seen Bryan Hitch. The dogfight with the jets at the start was excellent. I'm not sure why Galvatron is so supicious of his former leiutenants that he would insist on meeting them in a human town, after all they used to be a close unit not so long ago. The pair are deluding themselves though if they think that they are a match for Galvatron, even with their Targetmaster weapons. Interesting that the Wreckers have come to sort out Galvatron, you would have thought they'd have enough to do trying to overthrow the Decepticons on Cybertron and would leave Earth matters to the Earth-based Autobots.
