Past and future collide as Galvatron calls on Megatron to ask for help building a weapon of mass destruction!
The sound of powerful jet engines can be heard high above Wyoming. Eager to test out their new modes, Cyclonus and Scourge mercilessly attack human targets below them. After their sudden and mysterious entrance last issue, Galvatron who is inside Cyclonus' cockpit, decides it is time to continue with their yet unknown mission. With this, they set course for the Decepticon base - it is time to announce their arrival to Megatron!
Elsewhere, Jazz leads a small group of Autobots towards the Decepticon base. They are still in shock after the sudden disappearance of their leader Optimus Prime, and his senior officers Prowl and Ratchet, and they hope that by spying on the Decepticons they can get some answers. As they reach the perimeter, they see Megatron addressing the Constructicons as Cyclonus and Scourge soar into view. Transforming as they land, Galvatron and his lieutenants greet Megatron and introduce themselves. Soundwave attempts a scan of Galvatron's mind but some unknown technology prevents him. With the Autobots still watching from above, Galvatron announces himself as the Decepticon leader of 2006 and tells Megatron that he is here to orchestrate a plan to destroy all of their enemies in a single move. He asks for his predecessor's trust and for temporary custody of the Contructicons. As Galvatron waits for an answer he finds himself on the sharp end of a blast from Megatron's fusion cannon! There is no way Megatron will help a potential rival; all they will get from him is death!
Cyclonus and Scourge are in robust mood and tell Megatron that if anyone is to die today it will be him. Galvatron quickly rounds on them - have they lost their minds? Megatron, cannot, must not die! This response was anticipated and Galvatron orders them to proceed with plan B. Cyclonus and Scourge quickly shoulder charge Megatron and Soundwave into the side of a cliff, and before they can react Galvatron transforms into his laser cannon mode and brings the cliff down over them. Laserbeak comes to rest on his new leader's shoulder, and Galvatron notes that appearances may be deceiving to some but not this airborne Decepticon. The Constructicons are given a choice - serve Galvatron or die - and they promptly choose the more favourable alternative. As the Decepticons begin to depart, Jazz and Hound decide to follow from a safe distance while Smokescreen reports the developments to the Ark.
On the distant planet Cybertron, four Autobots make their way through the long discarded utility ducts far below the planet's surface. With the flame representing the Creation Matrix extinguished last issue, Emirate Xaaron is concerned that Optimus Prime has died without passing it on. It is imperative that they determine what has become of Optimus and Xaaron has decided that Ultra Magnus must journey to Earth to investigate. Impactor disagrees, Operation Volcano is underway and Magnus is needed to ensure the success of the mission. As they enter Autobase, Impactor hopes to convince him to stay. But the Magnus believes that without the Matrix the Autobot cause is already lost, though he too wants Volcano to succeed, he must travel to Earth.
As the Autobots spy on the Decepticon base Smokescreen gets the idea to sic Omega Supreme on them. Hound's response 'too late it looks reinforcements have arrived' sounds like a rather lame excuse. In fact the absence of the Autobot's most powerful warrior is not explained throughout the Target: 2006 story. We learn via the Grim Grams page in a later issue that Galvatron and his leiutenants timejumped shortly after destroying Starscream on Cybertron (in the Movie). This would have been their first opportunity to test their new forms in an Earthen invironment. There are also a couple of clues this issue as to Galvatron's identity. Did you spot them?
